A Glendale high school teacher was arrested Monday for placing hidden cameras in a room where students were changing, police said Tuesday.

Police spokesman Jose Santiago said several students at Independence High School found the devices that their teacher, Estevan Carreon, was allegedly using to watch them.

“We’re really proud of what these teenagers did," Santiago said. "They were smart enough to go ahead and say something, react to it, [and] take the items out of the room. All of that was very crucial for this investigation.”

The school immediately removed Carreon and is working with the students to get them help if they need it.

A document released by Glendale police says on March 18, Carreon arranged a meeting with his students (two males and four females) at the school during spring break. They were working on an extra credit media project, which required them to change in and out of different outfits. A “changing room” was attached to the media room.

Before students arrived, police say Carreon set up three hidden spy cameras in the changing room, which captured multiple students in a state of undress. The cameras were located by the students and video evidence was recovered.

Carreon received the Samuel A. Kirk Special Education Teacher of the Year Award in 2021.
