It could take half-a-billion dollars in stadium upgrades to keep the Diamondbacks in Phoenix
Opening day for the Arizona Diamondbacks last Thursday was a record-setter with a 16-1 trouncing against the Colorado Rockies.
And with the regular season underway, the recurring question of whether the Diamondbacks will stay at Chase Field in Phoenix is percolating once again.
“Our lease is coming up at the end of '27 so we really need to know. I’m hoping maybe at some point this season that we are definitely staying here. But, we’re committed to here, and we’re trying to make it work,” said team CEO Derrick Hall.
The team is looking for a public/private partnership to pay for upgrades and repairs to the stadium, which is owned by the Maricopa County Stadium District.
Those costs could run upwards of half-a-billion dollars, according to some estimates.
