Scottsdale city planner Caitlin Clark discovered she shared the same name as the Iowa Hawkeyes college basketball player through a family member. Having the same name eventually led Clark from Scottsdale to star in a March Madness commercial alongside the athlete.

In the commercial, the athleticism of both Clarks show that they are not the same despite the matching names. The narrator compares the difference in their athleticism to the performance of Internet service providers and encourages customers to not settle for less.

Scottsdale city planner Caitlin Clark appeared in a television spot with Iowa Hawkeyes player Caitlin Clark.

Clark eventually came to like the concept.

“Yes, I am not as good as Caitlin Clark in basketball. Of course not. I've really never played sports. I'm not coordinated. I don't have those skills, but I really like the concept. I thought it was very smart," she said.

Clark of Scottsdale also says she took part in the ad to bring attention to what the Hawkeyes player is doing for women’s sports.

“She recently made history and she's steering the conversation in a direction that hopefully can show that women can do everything men can do and, hey, even better," she says.

In an emailed statement to KJZZ News, Clark confirmed she was compensated for the TV ad as her travel expenses were paid for by the company that produced it.
