Planned Parenthood's Phoenix clinic launches vasectomy services

The organization's chief medical officer, Dr. Jill Gibson, said the Supreme Court’s 2022 Dobbs decision, which paved the way for stricter abortion laws in many states, including Arizona, led to increased demand for vasectomies.
“There’s just been a realization that this is a time to be sure you are not contributing to an unwanted pregnancy," Gibson told KJZZ News.
Planned Parenthood Arizona’s Tucson health center started offering the procedure about a year ago. About half of that clinic’s vasectomy patients since then have been traveling from across the state, so Gibson said there was an obvious need to offer appointments in Phoenix.
The Phoenix clinic has offered vasectomies in the past, but the service has not been available there for more than a decade, Gibson said.
Gibson said vasectomy patients don’t need a referral, and depending on insurance, some patients can have a consultation and procedure on the same day.
