The temperature on Thursday may be close to 90 degrees in Phoenix — but the forecast calls for a big drop starting Friday.

The National Weather Service in Phoenix says a cold front is approaching the Valley that should put daytime temperatures into the upper 60s.

Temperatures are expected to be in the mid-70s through the weekend and into early next week, well below the normal highs for early April in Phoenix.

Strong winds have started in northern Arizona, driving in more moisture for the high country Friday. The National Weather Service anticipates snow and rain for areas above 6,000 feet in elevation, dropping to 4,000 by Friday night and creating hazardous driving conditions.
