Tucson’s City Council will consider whether to join cities across the country in calling for a ceasefire in Gaza between Israel and Hamas at its meeting Tuesday.

South Tucson, the tiny town of 4,500 residents just a mile away from Tucson’s city hall, was the first city in Arizona to call for a ceasefire.

Councilwoman Lane Santa Cruz asked that the council to take up the issue, urging her cohorts to act quickly in calling for the ceasefire. City councils across the country from California to New York have passed or rejected similar calls.
