AZ Rep. Cook invites Taylor Swift to AZ to celebrate new anti-bot legislation
A Republican state lawmaker made good on a promise to invite Taylor Swift to attend a bill signing ceremony for two pieces of legislation inspired by the pop superstar.
Rep. David Cook (R-Globe) sponsored two bills designed to combat skyrocketing ticket prices by regulating resellers and banning the use of bots to gobble up tickets to popular events. As the bills moved through the legislature, Cook said he planned to invite Swift to a bill signing ceremony if Gov. Katie Hobbs signed them into law.
Hobbs signed both bills on April 10, and Cook said invites have gone out to Swift’s team, including her attorney and members of her crew.
“Then I got confirmation last Thursday that it was in her team’s … hands,” Cook said. “And they’ll make her aware of it, so we’re just waiting.”
It’s not uncommon for the governor to hold ceremonial bill signing ceremonies for high profile legislation. She recently held one such event for a bill that meant to hold long-term care facilities accountable for failing to keep residents safe.
Hobbs said in February that she supported inviting Swift to a future bill signing. The governor's spokesman said they are not currently planning on holding a signing ceremony for the bills but that could change if Swift responds to Cook’s invitation.
