Page motel gets new life as 20-unit apartment building to help reduce homelessness
In northern Arizona, the city of Page has experienced a rise in homelessness since 2020. Nonprofit groups and the state recently converted a motel into permanent housing to help.
Housing for Hope recently celebrated the conversion of the 20-unit Pinyon Pointe Apartments in the small town. The program is part of Catholic Charities Community Services and received a $150,000 grant from the Arizona Housing Fund.
"It’s a little smaller than some of the big metro projects, but it’s needed in Page, Arizona," said the fund’s Howard Epstein. He said most communities throughout the state need some sort of housing solution at this point.
The project started with the $6.3 million purchase of a 39-room motel before costs overran it and the fund provided the last $150,000.
The apartments will provide housing and connect people with medical treatment, food and mental health and substance abuse help.
