New Entrepreneurial Curator Joins Scottsdale Museum of Contemporary Arts
All art is subjective, right? But who decides, then, what art is good enough to show in a museum, like in the Scottsdale Museum of Contemporary Arts, for example?
Well, in that case, the answer to that is now Hanh Ho, who has just been named SMoCA’s new Curator of Contemporary Arts.
But Ho’s background isn’t just in the arts. Yes, she studied art and art history, but then she went to business school, before going to London to get a curatorial degree from the prestigious Goldsmiths College. For the last 6 years, she’s run her own gallery — called CYDONIA — in Dallas, which became one of the first galleries in that region to highlight international contemporary emerging art.
Ho says she still considers herself an art dealer at heart — because she loves to discover new artists — but her background and training are as a curator. And that’s what had led her to SMoCA.
The Show met her to talk about it.
