The former chairman of the Navajo County Democratic Party is spearheading an effort to get voters to overturn three changes in election laws approved this year by the Republican-controlled Legislature in the wake of Joe Biden's victory over Donald Trump. 

One of the new laws Eric Kramer seeks to stall and let voters decide on is prohibiting state and local election officials from seeking outside grants for voter registration and election administration, even if they believe they are not being properly funded.

“It takes a lot of money to run accurate and fair elections, to have these drop boxes out, to have people servicing the drop boxes, and do all the things you need to get accurate and timely results. And the legislature has certainly underfunded elections," Kramer said.

Some opponents of the new election laws see them as a way of giving Republicans an edge in future elections, particularly after Biden beat Trump in Arizona last year by just over 10,000 votes.
