Gov. Doug Ducey says Arizona’s COVID-19 outbreak is looking much better, but says it’s not time to celebrate.

Speaking to the media Thursday, the governor pointed to declining test positivity rates, improving hospital capacity metrics and faster test turnaround times, saying Arizonans should feel optimistic about the future. But he announced no new policy changes, saying Arizona needs to continue doing what’s working to slow the spread of the virus.

“What we don’t want to do is let our guard down on it because we don’t know what’s in the future, the virus is unpredictable, and we do have flu season ahead of us," Ducey said.

As the state’s universities return to classrooms and school districts weigh reopening for in-person education, Ducey expressed confidence in superintendents and university leadership.
