Outgoing President Donald Trump’s administration announced Tuesday that it had completed a campaign promise of finishing the wall along the U.S.-Mexico border.

Acting Homeland Security Secretary Chad Wolf said the administration had completed 450 miles of new border wall construction in spite of a slew of lawsuits that sought to stop the project.

Trump took office proclaiming a border wall that would stretch sea to sea and be paid for by Mexico.

Instead, the border wall that went up mostly replaced existing border fences installed over the past 30 years. The new system though is far higher than the previous builds and laid out with lighting for border roads.

Incoming President Joe Biden has vowed to stop any further construction but hasn’t said whether he intends to tear down the wall put up since 2017.
