Earlier this month, losing attorney general candidate Abe Hamadeh asked the state Supreme Court to order a new trial in his bid to overturn his election loss to Democrat Kris Mayes.

Lawyers for Mayes are now asking for the high court to not take up the case.

In a new legal filing, attorney Alexis Danneman told the justices that the original trial ended more than seven months ago.

She added that Hamadeh’s team even acknowledged that it didn’t have enough evidence to prove their claim that he had gotten more votes than Mayes.

Furthermore, Danneman wrote that Hamadeh’s lawyers have not yet asked a Mohave County Superior Court judge for a final judgment.

If the Supreme Court declines to immediately jump in, Hamadeh would still have the normal appeals process to go through depending on the Mohave County judge’s ruling. The justices have not said when they will consider Hamadeh’s request.
