Arizona law professor reacts to the latest indictment against Trump
A week ago, former President Donald Trump and 18 other defendants were indicted in Georgia for their alleged criminal efforts to overturn the 2020 election loss in that state.
Arizona has been referenced in the Georgia case and also a previous Washington, D.C., case as a state where possible further criminal activity was committed by Trump and/or his allies.
But legal scholars haven’t seen any signal that Attorney General Kris Mayes is pursuing a case to support such speculation.
According to University of Arizona law professor Christopher Griffin: “There would be elements of state election law that are violated by trying to pass oneself off as the 'true elector' when the state’s voters chose the opposing candidate.”
He indicated that while speculation about Arizona has been used to build cases elsewhere, there's no evidence to date which suggests a parallel one is currently being pursued here.
