The Maricopa County Board of Supervisors unanimously approved an allocation of $1 million for a program to help eligible homeowners in the town of Guadalupe. The town will also contribute $200,000.

The county has an affordable housing crisis, and one way to address it is to build. Another way, one supervisor said, is to help current residents stay put, rather than be priced out.

The average housing repair cost is $20,000. Using funds from the federal American Rescue Plan and the town, Maricopa County expects this program to help out at least 50 Guadalupe homeowners through March 2025.

The program could address things like roofing and electrical repairs, windows, pests and security.
