Arizona State University plans to vastly expand its footprint in downtown Phoenix. The university has announced it will build its new medical school in the center of the city.

ASU in June first announced plans for a new medical school. ASU Health will include both a school of medicine focused on medical engineering, and a school of public health technology.

ASU President Michael Crow on Thursday said that all of those programs will be headquartered in downtown Phoenix.

“So what we're expecting is a technological influx into Phoenix, as well as an influx of 21st-century, 22nd-century physicians and health technologists into Phoenix, also," Crow said.

Crow appeared in a video alongside Phoenix Mayor Kate Gallego to make the announcement. They advocated for voters to support bond packages to back the development.

ASU’s Edson College of Nursing and Health Innovation and its College of Health Solutions are already located downtown. The university says the exact site for the new programs is still to be determined.
