Tucson City Councilman Steve Kozachik has been collecting the plastic at his office since last fall. The blocks arrive back in Tucson after being compressed by ByFusion in California.

A longtime Tucson councilman is resigning from his seat at the end of this month. Steve Kozachik has been on the City Council since 2009. He represents Ward 6 in midtown Tucson — where he worked on city projects including those focused on migrant care and another to reduce collect and recycle plastic waste.

Kozachik says he’ll stay in his seat until March 31st and will then take a public works position with Pima County — where he’ll work on the upcoming sportsplex project slated for the city’s southside.

The mayor and City Council are expected to meet next month for a study session to determine next steps for an interim replacement to serve the remainder of his term.
