Arizona has more winter weather on the way this weekend. The National Weather Service expects much of the northern part of the state will be getting heavy snow.

"For the Flagstaff area, anywhere from 5 to 9 inches; Grand Canyon, 1-2 inches; Williams, 2-4 inches; Jacob Lake on the north rim of the Grand Canyon, 6-10 inches of snow," said National Weather Service meteorologist Mark Stubblefield.

The heaviest snow is expected on Friday. Snow chances decrease a little over the next few days, but Stubblefield said the storm system is likely to linger at least through Tuesday.

He recommends drivers check road conditions before heading north.

On Friday afternoon, the Arizona Department of Transportation said the following highways were closed due to winter weather: US 89A southbound near Jacob Lake (milepost 576); State Route 87 northbound near Payson (milepost 245); State Route 260 in both directions between Interstate 17 and State Route 87 (mileposts 218-252); and State Route 64 in both directions east of the Grand Canyon National Park (mileposts 243-268).
