A year-long study has started for a proposed Union Pacific Railroad switch yard near Picacho Peak. The project includes the construction of multiple train tracks and commercial warehouses next to Interstate Ten between Phoenix and Tucson.

It happened again on Interstate 17 this past weekend. An accident snarled southbound traffic Sunday afternoon leaving homebound travelers stuck in a massive jam, and geography makes the problem worse. This time the accident was near Black Canyon City.

There is a piece of presidential history parked at an Arizona airport. It is one of the first airplanes to fly President Dwight D. Eisenhower around the world in the 1950s.  This is one of three Lockheed Constellation planes President Eisenhower used during the early years of his presidency in the 1950's.

The Secretary of State’s office says Arizona's voter registration numbers have risen by about 2,300 since the last report in April. Spokesman Matt Roberts says the number of non-affiliated voters increased the most, “The two other state-wide major parties have seen either decreases, slight decreases or they’ve gone up and down a little bit, over the last couple years especially,” Roberts said.

Governing Board members of Pima Community College will have to attend workshops and retreats to learn how to do their jobs, even though most have held office for more than a decade. The Arizona Daily Star reports the college has been put on probation, after a recent investigation found sweeping problems at the school, including corrupt hiring and contracting practices and the mishandling of sexual harassment claims.

President Obama will be in Phoenix Tuesday. The president is scheduled to present his plans to help homeowners and people who want to buy homes. This is part of a series of speeches the president is making across the country outlining ideas to boost the economy.

President Barack Obama will speak about home ownership Tuesday afternoon at Desert Vista High School in the Valley. His speech will highlight the topic as a, "cornerstone of how we strengthen the middle class," according to a White House press release.
