After one unsuccessful attempt to challenge his narrow defeat in the Arizona attorney general’s race last December, Abe Hamadeh is still trying to make his case in court.
A new filing suggests a judge may be mulling over whether to grant a new trial right up until the legal deadline next month.
Hamadeh continues his efforts to overturn what was the closest statewide election in Arizona history.
An automatic recount discovered about 500 uncounted votes from Pinal County, shrinking the margin between Mayes and Hahmaheh to just 280. The county blamed human error.
Now, Hamadeh's lawyers argue there’s more votes out there for him — including in an estimated 50,000 ballots that skipped voting in the attorney general’s race. Opponents say he has no evidence of that claim.
There’s been no court action since he requested a new trial in May. Hamadeh's lawyers have filed again to request a briefing schedule.
The judge must make a decision on granting a new trial by mid-July.
